C. Legal requirements
The legal requirements result from the Barrier-Free Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSG), in particular from Sections 3, 14 BFSG and Annex 3 to the BFSG, with reference to the Ordinance to the Barrier-Free Accessibility Reinforcement Act (BFSGV). According to this, services for people with disabilities must be findable, accessible and usable in the usual way, without particular difficulty and, in principle, without outside help. This means
- Information on the accessibility of the service must be provided, and identification, authentication, security and payment functions must be barrier-free.
- In the case of a visual provision of service, a form of service must be set up that enables use in the absence of or with impaired vision and does not require color differentiation.
- In the case of an auditory provision of services, a form of operation must be set up that enables use in the absence of or with impaired hearing.
- In the case of a manual operating mode, an operating mode must be set up that does not require fine motor control or operation, and the operating elements must be within reach of the user.
- Operating modes that trigger photosensitive seizures should be avoided.
- A form of operation must be set up that includes functions that facilitate and simplify use with cognitive impairments.
- The
privacy of users when using the accessibility functions must be preserved.
D. Status of compliance with the requirements of the BFSG
We are committed to making www.taschen.com accessible to all users. To achieve this, we have implemented various features and continue to improve our website's accessibility in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.1). Our key accessibility features include:
- Keyboard Navigation: The entire website, including desktop and mobile navigation, search functionalities, language and country selectors, and footer content, is fully navigable using only a keyboard. Users can access all information on listing and detail pages, filter and sort products, utilize pagination, and interact with the mini-cart and cart pages seamlessly via keyboard. When the keyboard navigation is used first, the user can tab to the main content or continue to tab and go to the Menu which is accessible via keyboard, too.
- Screen Reader Compatibility: The website is accessible to screen readers. Skip-to-content links enable the user to jump directly to the relevant part of the page.
- Form Controls: All form controls across the website have proper corresponding labels that clearly explain their functionalities. These labels are translated into all relevant languages to ensure universal understanding.
- Descriptive Buttons: All "icon-only" buttons on the website include appropriate aria-label attributes to clearly indicate their function to screen readers. These labels are descriptive of the button's action and are translated into all relevant languages.
- Alternative Text for Images: We provide descriptive alternative text for
all images across our site to ensure that users relying on screen readers can
understand the visual content. This includes:
- Content Elements: Alt-texts for TeaserHero, Discover-More, and other content elements are maintained in our Content Management System. Product-Placement and Product-Highlight images use the titles of the specific products shown as their alt-text.
- Listing Pages: Product tiles display the titles of the specific products as alt-text.
- Detail Pages: Image sliders have alt-text formatted as "Image x of y" (translated appropriately for all languages). Product Series and Recommendations use the titles of the specific series/editions or products shown. The "Add-to-Cart Popup" displays the title of the product added to the cart as its alt-text.
- Cart Page & Mini-Cart: Product tiles on both the cart page and mini-cart use the edition titles (including edition languages) as alt-text. Recommendations on these pages use the titles of the specific products shown.
In addition, we ensure that our identification, authentication, security and payment functions are perceptible, operable, comprehensible and robust for all users. To this end, we have implemented the following measures
- Data Security: We employ technical and organizational measures to protect user data from unauthorized access. This includes the use of TLS encryption for all data transfer between your computer and our servers, identifiable by the "https://" in the address bar.
- Customer Account Management: Users have the option to create a customer account, which involves processing email addresses for registration and other personal data provided voluntarily.
- Order Processing: For order fulfillment, we collect necessary data such as name, order number, purchased items, payment method, and delivery/billing addresses to register and process orders, deliver products, handle payments, and facilitate communication.
- Payment Processing and Data Transfer: To complete transactions, we transfer relevant data to shipping companies and selected payment service providers (e.g., PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, Shop Pay) and credit institutions involved in processing payments.
- Diverse Payment Options: We offer a variety of payment methods including Credit Card, PayPal, Klarna, Apple Pay, and Shop Pay, aiming to provide flexible and accessible payment solutions.
