‘Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining’ at Kubrick Family Estate

Childwickbury Manor, December 2022: Together with the extended Kubrick family and editor Lee Unkrich, we previewed the Collector’s Edition, Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, to TASCHEN collectors from the UK, Europe and America. Notable guests included film critics from The Guardian, The Telegraph, Sight & Sound Magazine and France 2, plus film directors, cast and crew members who worked on the film over 40 years ago, as well as the book’s designers Mathias Augustyniak, Michael Amzalag and Eibhlín Doran from M/M Paris. One of the highlights of the evening was the appearance of Lisa and Louise Burns – best known as “the twins” from the film, who patiently posed with guests for numerous photographs.

After a warm welcome by Marlene Taschen, Lee Unkrich and Kubrick’s Executive Producer Jan Harlan took to the stage for a conversation on Lee’s obsessive ten year project, moderated by writer and director Richard Ayoade, with Jan adding insights about his real life experience on set with Stanley. Ottolenghi provided canapés and drinks, and to round off the family affair, Stanley Kubrick’s grandson Jack Hobbs was our photographer.
