Our Los Angeles office is seeking a resourceful and imaginative, full-time Senior Designer/Art Director to design and art direct a number of book titles and digital images per year, working across multiple genres and formats in a well-organized and timely manner. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, creative, and experienced graphic designer with a strong track record in print and digital media.

Key responsibilities:
  • Create outstanding book and digital media designs that uphold the standards and meet the objective of TASCHEN publishing
  • Closely collaborate on book projects with the publisher, editorial, and production department
  • Assign and manage freelance designers on select covers and layouts
  • Route material for approval, maintain schedules, and prepare files for output
  • Adhere to fast-paced schedules and deadlines while upholding high design quality standards
  • Provide support on additional production, design, and administrative tasks
  • Contribute to the development of departmental and publishing procedures, including increased productivity, communication, collaboration, design creativity, and quality

Candidate’s Profile:
  • 4-year college degree with major in graphic design, or equivalent education and work experience required
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience as an Art Director in a book/magazine publishing art department or in a media agency
  • Proven design experience in digital media
  • Strong aesthetic skills and great attention to visual detail
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize daily workload
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Able to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Proactive and able to take initiative
  • Outgoing, eager to work and collaborate in an international and artistic environment

Our Los Angeles office is seeking a responsible, full-time Personal Assistant to Publisher to work closely with our publisher and owner of TASCHEN by providing personalized secretarial and administrative support in a well-organized and timely manner. The successful candidate will be proactive, positive, well-mannered, constructive, and intelligent, working pragmatically on a one-on-one basis across numerous tasks related to the publisher’s working and private life and communication.

Key responsibilities:
  • Administration – Answering the phone, taking messages, diary management, preparing and updating reports, maintaining travel arrangements
  • Organization – keeping files, desktops, and diaries organized; planning trips and events and scheduling meetings
  • Communication – handling incoming email, faxes, and post, often corresponding on behalf of the publisher
  • Research – carrying out background research and presenting information
  • Managing internal/external relationships – developing positive relationships with clients, artists, and people within the company on behalf of the publisher
  • Personal – running errands, taking care of personal maintenance tasks

We are looking for a full-time Production Assistant to be based out of our Madrid or Milan office.

This is a great opportunity for a dynamic, organized, and creative professional with an interest in product development, production techniques, materials, printing, and the publishing industry as a whole.

Your duties and responsibilities:
  • Assisting the Production Manager across all phases of our production process
  • Researching new vendors and suppliers, including requesting quotations, samples and competitive pricing
  • Supporting the development of new products and designs
  • Ongoing maintenance of material research and sample libraries
  • Visiting vendors and production facilities on a regular basis
  • Assisting with the preparation of presentations and deliveries

Your profile:
  • Completed university studies or equivalent training in Industrial or Product Design. Other Design degrees may be considered if suitable
  • Mastery of Mac OS X, Adobe Suite, Microsoft Office; and 3D rendering software (Rhino/Alias/…)
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and great follow-through a must
