London, United Kingdom – Naomi Campbell’s limited Collector’s Edition TASCHEN book has officially arrived in London. On Monday, April 18th, Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer Christopher Bailey and Benedikt Taschen celebrated the London launch of the book, NAOMI, at Thomas’s, Burberry’s all day café located at their flagship Regent Street store. The day after, the supermodel appeared at TASCHEN’s Duke of York Square store, where she personalized copies of her book for top collectors and VIPs.
Some of Europe’s most influential fashion designers, photographers, artists, models, and musicians gathered at the Burberry bash on Monday evening to celebrate Ms. Campbell – undeniably one of London’s most celebrated exports – in her hometown, including Mario Testino, Nick Knight, Tinie Tempah, Boy George, Erin O’Connor, Manolo Blahnik, Charlotte Olympia Dellal, Alice Dellal, Eva Herzigová, Tania Fares, Bernie Ecclestone, Sir Philip Green, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Giancarlo Giammetti, Rifat Ozbek, Elizabeth Saltzman, and more.
Guests toasted Ms. Campbell with cocktails and shared stories and memories with her family and closest personal friends, including mum Valerie Morris and girlfriends from her London school days.
Reflecting on the evening, Ms. Campbell said:
“Monday’s launch here in London, my home town, meant so much to me. To be able to celebrate with my family and friends like Christopher Bailey and Benedikt Taschen, and so many people from my industry that have surrounded me for over 30 years was a great honour. I want to express my gratitude and thanks for a special night – and to my Burberry family, who made this London launch a celebration I will always remember.”
Burberry’s Christopher Bailey said:
“Naomi is such a special member of our family so it was a real honour to celebrate this wonderful night with her – the sheer volume of friends and family that packed the room is testament to what a huge impact she has had on our industry for so many years and how much she is loved by everyone in it.”
Benedikt Taschen toasted the lively evening in London, saying:
“All good things come in pairs: bringing together two London icons – the fashion world's one and only Naomi Campbell, and art world legend Allen Jones, is a dream come true and a match made in heaven. It has been a long journey of over seven years, but from the very first day until now it was nothing but a pleasure to work with Naomi and there could not have been a more fitting place to celebrate than at Burberry.”
With a multiple artwork by Pop Art legend Allen Jones, NAOMI is limited to 1,200 signed and numbered copies.
The two-volume edition marks a major record of Naomi’s career to-date, incorporating both a ravishing, SUMO-sized image portfolio and exclusive autobiographical text. Volume 1, the photographic collection, showcases Naomi as styled and shot by such luminaries as Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Richard Avedon, Anton Corbijn, Patrick Demarchelier, Jean-Paul Goude, Peter Lindbergh, Steven Meisel, Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Paolo Roversi, Mario Testino, Ellen von Unwerth, and Bruce Weber. Volume 2 offers an unprecedented personal encounter with the supermodel, pairing Naomi’s own anecdotes with family snapshots, personal notes, and photographs of friends and collaborators from her own archives.
Designed exclusively for Naomi’s book, Allen Jones’ artwork deploys stylized contours and smooth surfaces to invoke a sense of touch, while exploring the role of the supermodel in contemporary culture. In Jones’s words, “it does not attempt to illustrate Naomi, but to encapsulate her.”
