On Sunday, October 29, the Lucie Foundation named TASCHEN the ‘Book Publisher of the Year’ in their Limited-Edition category for James Baldwin and Steve Schapiro’s The Fire Next Time.

The book is an adaptation of James Baldwin's seminal 1963 book of the same name, published with photographs from the Civil Rights era by Steve Schapiro, and original essays by U.S. Representative John Lewis and Baldwin's sister, Gloria Karefa-Smart.

Lucie Awards is the premiere annual event in the U.S. honoring achievements in photography. The ceremony took place at Carnegie Hall in New York City, where TASCHEN Editor Nina Wiener received the award from photographer Anna Mia Davidson, herself the daughter of legendary Magnum photographer Bruce Davidson.

The evening marked a double win for Schapiro, who also received the award for Achievement in Photojournalism.
