Reuel Golden

Reuel Golden is an award winning writer and editor, specializing in photography, history, and popular culture. Golden graduated in politics from the University of Sussex, UK, and is the former editor of the British Journal of Photography. He was also senior editor of the world’s biggest magazine for professional photographers, the New York-based Photo District News. He has edited numerous titles for TASCHEN including books that traverse topics as diverse as pop art, football, music and the British monarch.

Reuel Golden is a noted authority on photojournalism and as an editor has a gift for selecting images that communicate the zeitgeist; whether they are moments of historical importance, classic beauty, or representative of an ephemeral and elusive feeling. Golden often works with extensive archives, sieving through masses of pictures to put together the very best art books. His writing encourages the reader to look closely and discover how eloquently photographs speak for themselves.Through his work as a commentator and curator of images he reminds us that, in an era where moving image and digital stimulation create a frenetic mode of spectatorship, the still photograph remains as powerful as ever.

TASCHEN and Reuel Golden have published a range of books together with photography always at the center of focus. Golden’s insightful grasp of documentary photography and history has seen him produce two of TASCHEN’s Portrait of A City series: New York and London. Similarly he is the editor of the astounding National Geographic: Around the World in 125 Years collection, which surveys the very best of the iconic magazine’s visual content. He has also crafted books on The Rolling Stones, her majesty the Queen of England, Andy Warhol’s polaroids, football during the 1970s, and the renown music label Capitol Records. Golden’s books offer spectacular pictures with measured yet meticulous insight.
