Ralph Morse

Ralph Morse was an eyewitness to some of the most important events of the 20th Century. Morse was the youngest war correspondent on record when LIFE magazine sent him to the Pacific theater of World War II in 1942, and his iconic photographs from the European front announced the surrender of the German army to the world. As a staff photographer for LIFE for 30 years, his versatility was unmatched: from Babe Ruth at Yankee Stadium to Cuba under Castro to, most notably, the Apollo 11 astronauts and NASA.
