Philip Jodidio

Philip Jodidio (born 1954) studied art history and economics at Harvard and for more than two decades was editor-in-chief of the French art magazine Connaissance des Arts. He is widely regarded as one of the leading architecture writers and his impressive publishing oeuvre is testament to his superior knowledge of space, material, and form. From alternative living innovations to the careers of master architects such as Zaha Hadid or Jean Nouvel, Jodidio is the international authority on contemporary architecture.

Philip Jodidio has penned many of TASCHEN’s monograph books on architecture and has written well over 100 titles. Jodidio is known for his engaging and accessible publications which introduce the principles of modern design and showcase stunning examples of residential homes, public spaces, and commercial buildings. Jodidio’s vast knowledge and expertise familiarize readers of any background with the processes of planning, designing, and constructing, and provide insight to the elusive magic that transforms a utilitarian physical structure into a work of art.

Architecture publications by Jodidio include titles which explore design philosophies and movements such as small architecture or sustainability and green architecture. He has written treatises on particular materials like concrete and wood and vernacular forms such as tree houses and cabins. His Basic Architecture Series books unpack the design activity of major individual architects, including Shigeru Ban, Tadao Ando, David Chipperfield, Renzo Piano, Santiago Calatrava, and Richard Meier. Each book contains beautiful color photographs and intriguing architectural drawings, supplemented with key biographical information and detailed introductions to major works.
