On the first day of the highly anticipated Art Berlin week, TASCHEN celebrated the opening of the exhibition Bizarre Life – The Art of Elmer Batters and Eric Stanton at Store Berlin, following the show’s success at Los Angeles’ TASCHEN Gallery.
Even through storm and hail, Dian Hanson and TASCHEN hosted around 200 guests for a vernissage of the second show at TASCHEN’s Berlin outpost. Enjoying drinks, the eclectic mix of attendees included C/O Berlin Director Stephan Erfurt, gallerists Volker Diehl and Max Hetzler, Sebastian Zabel of Rolling Stone, Hans Werner Holzwarth, editors Egbert Baqué, Karl Kolbitz and Jürgen Müller, leading ambassador of the Friends of the National Gallery Jürgen Lucius, as well as collectors like Thomas and Ingrid Jochheim.
More than 70 photographs and illustrations presented a retrospective of the two fetish auteurs, chronicling their artistic practice and legacy – from the struggles of producing outsider sexual content in post-war America to their influence on later artists like Martin Kippenberger, Richard Prince, and Allen Jones.
