Bizarre Life - The Art of Elmer Batters and Eric Stanton
TASCHEN Store Berlin is pleased to announce the opening of Bizarre Life - The Art of Elmer Batters and Eric Stanton, a controversial exhibit that traces the artistic struggle of these two pioneers of fetish art, from the gritty post-war streets of New York’s Times Square to their position today as cultural icons and artistic reference for scores of contemporary artists, including Richard Lindner, Allen Jones, Helmut Newton and Martin Kippenberger.
Bizarre Life is drawn from the eponymous show presented at TASCHEN Gallery in Spring 2015, curated by Dian Hanson and Benedikt Taschen. The 73 original works selected for Store Berlin showcase Elmer Batters and Eric Stanton together for the first time in Europe, creating a forum to explore the origins of our current sexual autonomy while raising questions of power and dominance, sexual freedom and sexual repression, and their far-reaching effects on contemporary art.
South of the waistline and north of the soles lay photographer Elmer Batters’s personal paradise: a long shapely leg, a well-turned ankle, the arch of a foot, an enticing set of toes. This sultry collection offers some of the best of his fetish photography, with special Panic Cover to keep the contents to yourself.
