The accolades continue for Robert Nippoldt and Hans-Jürgen Schaal’s Jazz. New York in the Roaring Twenties. The book, already recipient of the International Book Award, International Design Award, and D&AD Award among other prizes, has now won the German Design Award 2016 in the category Excellent Communications Design – Books and Calendars.
The jury celebrated the book’s mix of illustration, typography and design as a “unique product which brings the spirit of the roaring twenties to life.” With illustrations, essential knowledge, and amusing anecdotes, as well as a CD of original recordings, the book showcases 24 top musicians from the golden jazz age including Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Bessie Smith, Fats Waller, and Bill “Bojangles” Robinson.
