We are saddened over the passing of Fred Lyon. Known as the “Brassaï of San Francisco,” he was also one of America’s greatest postwar photographers. Lyon relentlessly shot his hometown and its inhabitants over seven decades, and his luminous black and white images combined a European sensibility with an irresistible West Coast optimism.
