Tom Wolfe and Gay Talese in New York
The launch of ‘Frank Sinatra Has a Cold’
On the evening of November 30th, TASCHEN celebrated author Gay Talese and the release of the letterpress edition book Frank Sinatra Has a Cold with a private dinner party hosted by Benedikt Taschen and Tom Wolfe at the 21 Club.
The evening brought together Talese’s closest friends and collaborators, from Pulitzer-prize winning author Robert Caro and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, to artist Frank Stella and literary editor Nan Talese.
Released upon the centennial of Sinatra’s birth, the TASCHEN book revisits Talese’s groundbreaking piece of literary nonfiction with photographs of Sinatra by Phil Stern, reproductions of manuscript pages, and correspondence from the writer’s archive. Hosted just above Sinatra’s table (#14) at the 21 Club – the crooner’s favorite speakeasy – “the greatest celebrity portrait ever written” came to life in an unforgettable evening 50 years after its first publication.
