| "In 2003, TASCHEN unleashed GOAT on the world, a photographic history of Muhammad Ali and a tome so epic in size and scale as to almost justify its rather weighty price tag. Fully entitled Greatest of All Time - A Tribute to Muhammad Ali, it weighed a ton (well, 75 pounds), measured a coffee-table creaking 80 inches by 20 inches and ran to 792 pages. Its pages contained more than 3,000 images of Ali at work (pugilism), at rest (posturing) and at play (pugilism and posturing), complemented by more than half-a-million words from several hundred of the world's finest writers. It was not really a book, as German periodical Der Spiegel pointed out, but a 'monument on paper, the most megalomaniacal book in the history of civilization, the biggest, heaviest, most radical thing ever printed'. It was hard to find fault with that or the book itself. The only down side was the price tag - the 100 Champ's Editions each weighed in at £9000 Collector's Editions at £2500. Clearly it wasn't a book for the likes of us, until perhaps now. Finally, in their infinite wisdom, TASCHEN have decided to release an everyman edition of the book - a scaled-down but still monumental monument to Muhammad Ali. When released later this month it will cost a more manageable £99.99 plus postage. It's still a sizable outlay for a book.
