Book PresentationEllen von Unwerth to launch and sign her new book "Fräulein" at TASCHEN Store New YorkDecember 11, 2009TASCHEN Store New York, 107 Greene St, New York, NY 10012, United States One of the world's most original and successful fashion photographers, Ellen von Unwerth, will be at the TASCHEN Store in New York December 11, from 7pm-9pm to launch and sign copies of her new sumptous Collector's Edition book "Fräulein". Ellen von Unwerth was a supermodel before the term was invented, so she knows a thing or two about photographing beautiful women. As one of the most cutting edge photographers today, she pays homage to the world's most delectable females in "Fräulein". This celebration of our era's sexiest female icons includes Claudia Schiffer, Kate Moss, Vanessa Paradis, Britney Spears, Eva Mendes, Lindsay Lohan, Dita von Teese, Adriana Lima, Carla Bruni, Eva Green, Christina Aguilera, Monica Bellucci and dozens more. Von Unwerth's singular vision embraces sexual intrigue, femininity, romance, fetishism, kitsch humor, decadence and sheer joie de vivre. Her subjects are provocative but never objectified. Some flaunt personal fantasies; others are guarded, suggesting that we have stumbled into a secret world. Either way, fashion and fantasy were never so enchantingly combined. These images were shot over the last 15 years and many are previously unpublished. The U.S. Launch party is a private event, but invitations come with any purchase of the delectable and collectible collector's edition. |
Selected Quotations from International Media
„20 Millionen Kunstbücher werden von TASCHEN heute weltweit an den Leser gebracht. Das ist mehr als jeder andere Verlag schafft … Nach Köln, Los Angeles und Paris ist jetzt auch New York an der Reihe … Endlich haben Benedikt Taschen’s Bücher eine feste Adresse in der verrücktesten Stadt der Welt.“Anyway, WienAustria |

“Bibliophiles have a new destination to frequent in SoHo – German publisher TASCHEN’s newest flagship in New York City. The 1,900 square-foot SoHo store is another collaboration with Philippe Starck, who designed TASCHEN flagships in Paris and Beverly Hills. Starck’s angled ‘floating’ bookshelves appear to sprout from concrete and are topped with video monitors. The work of Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes adds movement and color to the space, and there is a downstairs gallery for special exhibits and events. The new store is a welcome alternative to the fluorescent glow of the ubiquitous super chains.”ARRAY, New YorkUnited States |

“Like all of its stores, Philippe Starck is the designer in charge. Offsetting the concrete floors and walls are large, vividly painted panels that double as wallpaper. A glass skylight at the back illuminates the downstairs gallery, boasting black-and-white photographs by Julius Shulman and the first egg chair by Danish designer Arne Jacobson.”Encore Magazine, New YorkUnited States |

"The smartest showman in the book publishing business, Benedikt Taschen, has opened an emporium in New York's SoHo. Designed by Philippe Starck, with comfy pillows and candy-colored murals by Brazilian artist Beatriz Milhazes, it's the perfect showcase for TASCHEN's frothy mix of art, architecture, pop culture and erotica titles."Departures, New YorkUnited States |
