TASCHEN America is seeking an

Editorial/production intern

for its office in Los Angeles, beginning in February, 2010. This is a great opportunity for someone with an interest in editing, design, photography, and the publishing industry. We require a commitment of 40 hours/week for a period of 6 months. The internship pays a modest stipend. Subject areas covered by TASCHEN America editors are pop culture, photography, and sex, so a particular interest in these disciplines is preferred. We're looking for someone who's lived a little and worked a lot, and is extremely detail-oriented with great follow-through skills. Internet research savvy and experience on Mac OS X and with Photoshop and Microsoft Office are required (Quark, InDesign, iView Media Pro, and FTP software a plus). Must be a native English speaker and reside in Los Angeles.

Responsibilities will be focused on assisting editors and the production department in various organizational tasks for upcoming titles, including substantial work scanning and cataloging original art, maintenance of our image archive, and working with designers to present art and layouts throughout the development phase of each title. Occasional departmental tasks could include proofreading, transcription, writing captions, filing, photocopying and generally helping out with whatever needs to be done. This means filling in to help with PR, stuffing envelopes, deliveries or making an espresso for an important visitor.
