| Hello, good Morning. In firts place, I would like to congratulate all the Taschen's fabulous work that has been done. I'm writting you to propose 2 titles to the Basic Architecture series: "Aldo Rossi" and "Robert Ventury". I thing this architect's as the master's of the post modern Era, they are incontornable figures and the fater's of the Movement. I think It would be 2 happiest titles to this wonderfull Series. | I just picked up your title, "Best Movies Of The 80s", and I felt compelled to point out two things. First, your photography and art direction is second to none. Second, your copywriting and fact-checking really, REALLY does need improving. The years of production / release attributed to many (most, in fact) of the titles listed are incorrect (e.g. SCARFACE was listed as a 1982 title, but was in fact released in the last month of 1983, and hadn't even finished principal photography until well into '83). Off the top of my head, the years attributed to DIVA, SCARFACE, FLASHDANCE, THE UNTOUCHABLES, DIE HARD, A FISH CALLED WANDA, THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING, TOP GUN, among others, were all incorrect. One is an unfortunate oversight. Two suggests the copywriters are falling down on the job. When the inaccuracies begin to outnumber the accuracies, it enters the realm of the unforgivable. I give you top marks for aesthetic presentation--your titles are among the most attractive I've seen. But until the standards of the writing and factual accuracy improves drastically, I am afraid I have purchased my last Taschen title. Sorry, guys. You really do need better film writers... |

| Dear David, Thank you very much for the compliments and also for your critique regarding the dates. In fact we always list the year of production in our Movies decade series which is often, but not necessarily also the release year. Referring to the year of production has the advantage of being globally acceptable since not all movies are released simultaneously in all countries. Besides it also allows a movie to be associated with its historical context (e.g. production of "Gangs of New York" ended in mid 2001; the expected Christmas release 2001 was pushed back because of 9/11 and the movie was finally released in December 2002 in the US but only in 2003 in the UK and the rest of Europe.) However, researching the correct year of production of a movie is sometimes more a question of evaluating the reliability of different sources than a question of accurate proofreading... For example THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING was released in the USA on February 5 1988, so 1987 is the correct year of production; also DIVA was released in France in March 1981, so 1980 certainly is the principal year of production, and the same goes for FLASHDANCE. Nevertheless you are completely right regarding other movies, especially SCARFACE and DIE HARD. Of course, we will amend these inaccuracies in future editions of the book.
