Book PresentationPanel Discussion and Book Presentation at Americas Society, New York about the book "Diego Rivera: The Complete Murals"May 30, 2008Americas Society 680 Park Avenue at 68th Street New York, NY 10065, United States Diego Rivera: The Complete Murals Panel Discussion and Book Presentation Friday, May 30 6:30 pm Americas Society 680 Park Avenue at 68th Street New York, NY 10065 Panelists: Juan Rafael Coronel Rivera (Co-eeditor of Diego Rivera: the Complete Murals), Dr. Javier Garciadeigo (President, El Colegio de Mexico), and Dr. Robin Adele Greeley (University of Connecticut). Participants will discuss the trajectory of the outstanding artist Diego Rivera, his role in recent Mexican history and his relationship to politics and the public sphere. In his murals, Rivera addressed social and political issues regarding revolutionary art and the working class, earning him a legendary status in his home country as well as abroad. He was also invited to work outside of Mexico; most notably the commission for a mural at the Rockefeller Center in New York City stirred up controversy and the piece was destroyed before it was finished. The event will launch the new publication by TASCHEN Diego Rivera: the Complete Murals. This lavish volume features numerous large-scale details of the murals.
