These lush images feature beautiful vistas, glorious scenery, and natural wonders. James A. Michener assembled one of the finest collections of these prints and left them to the Honolulu Academy of Arts, an institution which, like the Blanton Museum, had a long relationship with the distinguished writer and collector. The Blanton is pleased to be able to present more than 50 Japanese woodblock prints from Michener's collection in this exhibition, including works by leading Ukiyo-e artists Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858), Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849), and Kawase Hasui (1883-1957). |
