A providential place - La Bastide de Marie, Ménerbes
To have a centuries-old house with its own vineyard in one of the most beautiful parts of France, in reach of charming villages, has been a dream of many. High in the Lubéron Mountains of Provence, that fantasy can come partly true by staying at La Bastide de Marie, a small inn more like a home than a hotel. Set in a vineyard that produces promising red, white, and rosé Côtes du Lubéron, the rustic old farmhouse has been given a new lease of life. Contemporary restful colours, and the peace and quiet of the setting make this a haven for travellers who crave tranquillity and nourishment of body and mind. When the air is scented with lavender, sunlight bathes the walled garden, and delectable food and wine is served beside the pool, one could dream of not going home. On a nearby hillside is the picturesque village of Ménerbes. This may be as far as guests of La Bastide de Marie might want to venture. For those who feel like going further on shopping expeditions, there are lively weekly markets in the surrounding countryside, specialising in collectables from pottery to antiques.
