This book proves that that Tiki is not a trend rather than a way of life. Polynesian Pop Culture is back and here to stay! Bamboo Ben.

"Loud, flashy, and funny.... It will make you wish it were 1959 again and you were sitting in Trader Vic's, sipping a Samoan Fog Cutter."

This book should initiate a long overdue revival in Tiki culture. Tiki is a fascinating American interpretation of Pacific Island culture. While not anthropologically correct, Tiki highlights the underlying virtues of Pacific existence: trans-ethnic food, strong drink, animated song and dance, and an architectural boldness that is the antithesis of cookie-cutter suburbia. As muti-racial individual born and raised in Hawaii, and now living in California, I feel psychic connection with Tiki. In our increasingly diverse society, Tiki serves as a sterling example of how uniqueness can be celebrated in a non-judgemental fashion. For having a good time is a universal human endeavor. This book is wonderful: the images are effervescent and the prose is accessible.

"Tiki is back, after a decade of bubbling under pop culture's crust like a subterranean lava pool. It's all happening now: surfing, the revival of Hawaiian shirts, lounge music and tropical merchandise that Trader Vic's would have adored. Sven Kirsten's lavishly illustrated book, the fruit of two decades of collecting, is the most comprehensive look at the trend."
