I cannot say enough about Careyann Hensley. She has captured the imagination of America and of the rest of the world. She is shown in great form by the master, Bill Dobbins, as the most beautiful, graceful, charming, stunning, and powerful bodybuilder of all time.
She will live on as the standard by which all natural bodybuilders will strive to achieve perfection. I doubt that there ever will be anyone the likes of her again...but the struggle to attain that status is what bodybuilding is all about. Stanley CohenCanada |

As a plastic surgeon with years of experience I can attest to the beauty of the women photographed in Mr. Dobbins book. There is something alluring and breathtaking about a woman who attempts to sculpt her own body with her own efforts.
My task is to accentuate the beauty that is within each individual and to highlight her own features. One female in The Modern Amazons is especially striking. She is Carey Hensley and epitomizes the word goddess in the true sense of the word. Her physique something incredible to behold and her facial feature are perfect. Bodybuilding is not an out of the way sport any longer, but something that is in line with our desire to be better and healthier. I just read the Modern Amazons. I am not a fan of female bodybuilding and I don't see the need for women to get so big and muscular.

I enjoyed Bill Dobbins' books and especially his latest work in the fitness and bodybuilding magazines. The ability to draw out the most from female bodybuilders is a talent in itself and requires the photographer to "know" the subject intensely.
Since the mainstream media still has not given credence to females as bodybuilders it is that more difficult. Two bodybuilders make it easy by their infinitely beautiful physiques as well as their beautiful faces. Corey Everson and Carey Hensley are by far the most beautiful women alive today and I only wish that they would be shown more prominently on television and in print ads. I am very impressed with Bill Dobbin's work MODERN AMAZONS. My wife showed me the book and told me that she was inspired to get into better shape.
She is in great shape now, but not anywhere near the likes of the women in this book. My wife and I especially liked Corey Everson and Carey Hensley for their incredible combination of beauty and power. Their pictures just made my jaw drop and I can't get them out of my mind. My wife started to work out about a month ago and she realizes now that she can't reach their level of sophistication and beautiful muscle in a short time. But her improvements are real and thanks to Bill and the women he depicts I am the beneficiary of a wife with greater appeal than before (and she was great before). David LichtensteinFinland |

12 My fiance has been trying to get me into the gym to work out for over two years. I am a traditional model and couldn't get used the muscularity of these women, some of whom had larger muscles than most of the men in the gym.
I was given a gift this past Summer of Bill Dobbins book, The Amazons. I slowly warmed up to the look of these women until I got to the point of desiring to look like them myself. After working out for four months I can now truly appreciate the degree of sacrifice these women made to achieve such results. Some of them just stood out and made me feel so motivated to achieve the powerful, but feminine look they have. I have seen a copy of the book, Modern Amazons. As a female interested in bodybuilding and fitness, I see the pictures in a much different light than most.
I have seen the change in men's attitudes toward female muscle. Throughout the years I have alternately intimated men, became friendly with them, and now it appears that I turn them on. They are starting to "come out of the closet" with their awe of women of muscle. I always felt my model for female muscle were three people: Carey Hensley, Lenda Murray, and Christine Lydon. All three are intelligent women and have a blend of beauty and feminity mixed in with incredible physiques. In Bill Dobbin's book, MODERN AMAZONS, he catches the essence of how a woman can be both beautiful and spectacularly strong. I would wish to see more of these type of gorgeous women in more of these books to promote the muscular look. It fascinates me that the 2004 Olympics is featuring Woman's Wrestling, but still doesn't give credence to the most vital sport, bodybuilding. It will happen. Lena TannerIsrael |
