1000 extra/ordinary objects - Reviews
"Need a goat's eye sexual aid? Chinese slimming soap? A beer bottle brick? Look no further than TASCHEN's new publication 1000 Extra/Ordinary Objects . The 768-page book chronicles and catalogues all those objects that surround us and make us who we are: from food, fashion and leisure, to the body and soul -- this book finds the most useful useless things. There's the Japanese pubic wig, the Australian Daffy Duck asthma inhaler holder, Russia's Spray-N-Wake caffeine stimulant that gives you the equivalent of a cup of coffee per spritz and our own country's phone condom (for use on public phones), all proving what a sick and twisted world we live in. Freaks we all are, indeed."Spectator OnlineUnited States |

"Un véritable tour du monde des objets les plus dingos, les plus kitsch et les plus drôles. On s`arrête sur la carte de crédit pour chien ou la sucette aux insectes…"

It's a very sad book indeed. If one reads it thorougly this one is not fun at all. Most of the objects in the book that look odd and sometimes absurdish have stories behind them, and not always funny ones. "Happy people have no stories", as they say. Liquid food might be funny until you know that it is necessery for the veterans of war who cannot use normal one... Same for the toy car a boy from Africa made of barbed wire... There's a lot of philosophy in this book, and I strongly recommend it to everyone. But if you expect plain amusement from it, you might get cought... It's not that funny. It's about life, it's about strange things that happen with us, the things that are not always good. It's also about small problems that our neighbours have and that we are blindly failing to notice... Please, read this one. Maybe you will be more kind to the ones around you after that...DMBelarus |

Realmente un libro notable, entretenido por un lado e informativo por el otro, pero todo al mismo tiempo. Lastima que el mio sea prestadoPablo RivasChile |

This is the most entertaining and informative book I've read in ages! I wonder how all the information contained was gathered, it's just amazing.
I especially appreciated the addresses on what kind of helping organisations exist all over the world, what their aim is and how to contact them. The mixture of entertainment and information is unique, thanx for that! I'll get it for all my friends. :-) Nora HollGermany |
