"The lavishly illustrated Codices Illustres includes 167 outstanding examples. It examines each in language that is deliberately untechnical, shedding new light on a venerable and rarefied field without in any way dumbing down its esoteric subject matter; and doing so in a format that is itself ravishingly beautiful - a sumptuous but affordable Christmas present."

This is a beautiful book. The only disappointment is that you would want to have the complete versions of the books from which the pictures are taken. Perhaps Taschen would consider this?
