"Benedikt Taschen`s launch party for David LaChapelle`s book Artists & Prostitutes – 688 luscious, full-bleed, color pics of the likes of Madonna, Lil` Kim, Courtney Love, and David Beckham, most of them with very little on – took place in the garden of the Setai Hotel last night. It featured what appeared to be a giant pink plastic tent floating in the middle of the pool. High profile guests included Larry Gagosian and ‘Judy` Lybke of Eigen&Art surveyed this peculiar structure the secret of which was eventually unveiled by the mighty Taschen himself. Nesting in the middle was a naked, busty model, turning the giant pages of Chapelle`s jumbo-sized work."

This book really sets new standards of hyped mindless meaningless drivel. To allude that it has any relationship to the surrealism of Magritte would seem to indicate that Avedon either doesn't understand Magritte or is sadly now senile.

"A volume of photography which is sexy like shiny stiletto heels. The only link between Andy Warhol and J-Lo, LaChapelle has opened his archive to TASCHEN, GQ's favourite publisher of pop culture. The 690-page opus is the coffee-table topper of 2006."

"A lot of nudity is just gratuitous. But someone who makes me laugh is David LaChapelle. I think he`s very bright, very funny and good."
