Toulouse-Lautrec

Toulouse-Lautrec, painter of the belle époque's pursuit of fleeting pleasure

Today, the painter and graphic artist Henri Toulouse-Lautrec (1864-1901) is considered as one of the most inspired portrayers of human figures. This physically handicapped scion of the old French nobility was fascinated by life around Montmartre, whose cafes, cabarets, dance halls, and bordellos presented him with the "theatre of life."

More than any other artist, Toulouse-Lautrec captured the belle époque's pursuit of fleeting pleasure: directly and without flattery, his paintings, lithographs, and posters offer a masterly and timeless image of the age.

Since i was a girl i have always loved the impressionsts. i have read all i could thru the course of my life. i am in my sixties now and retired as a nurse. and i will start again. i love how lautrec studied with van gough, gaughin and degas and the otheres. years ago my first lautrec book was by Ami Guichard out of lausanne, switzerland back in the 1960's. he had obtained many of henri stuff from a maurice joyant, and a lady i can not remember her name. i was born to late. i wish i could have know henri and the others. i wish you could get A&E the tv station that does biographies here in america to do one of his. i have seen At the moulin Rogue my favorite painting of his, and have seen his art exhibit here in denver.my dream is to go to his home town. i have yet to buy his book by matthias but i will hoping to hear from you.
