"En esa magnífica edición de Los secretos de las obras de arte (TASCHEN, Colonia, 2003) Rose-Marie y Rainer Hagen nos recuerdan las delicias del jardín –concebido como reflejo del paraíso y como último refugio de la tranquilidad y la belleza–, a partir de María en el huerto cerrado, con santos, un cuadro pintado por un maestro renano anónimo a principios del siglo XV. Cargada de una rica simbología religiosa, la pintura refleja el jardín medieval, aislado de la violencia por las murallas del castillo. El jardín, como refugio para disfrutar de la vida, fue introducido por los romanos en el norte de Europa –dicen los Hagen–, pero desapareció con la caída del imperio y no volvió a difundirse sino varios siglos después, en los conventos, aunque con un sentido utilitario: era el huerto donde se cultivaban hierbas medicinales y aromáticas, y verduras y árboles frutales, además de tener una fuente y una parte reservada para las tumbas de los hermanos de la orden."El Periodico, GuatemalaGuatemala |
