The Pedro Almodóvar Archives NY Launch at TASCHEN New York

To continue the celebration of The Pedro Almodóvar Archives, TASCHEN once again hosted acclaimed filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar for the second time in less than a week, this time at the TASCHEN Store New York. Similar to last week’s full capacity Los Angeles launch, an electric New York crowd packed the store in anticipation of meeting Pedro and getting their book signed.

The night began with Pedro conducting private interviews downstairs while many of his family, friends, press, celebrities, and VIP’s gathered with him before going upstairs to the flashing of cameras and applause. Long time friend and Publisher/Editor in Chief of Paper Magazine Kim Hastreiter gave a very heartfelt introduction in which she reminisced about Pedro nearly 20 years ago, their early days in New York together, and how his first films cost him virtually nothing to make. She then turned the questions to Pedro asking him about his future and who his current favorite actors and actresses are. The Q&A session was concluded with Pedro’s promise to be back at TASCHEN 30 years from now to celebrate an updated Pedro Almodóvar Archives, much to the delight of the crowd.

Auszüge aus der internationalen Presse

"TASCHEN, the provocative art book publishing house that doesn't so much make books as perform them, has opened its own store in SoHo, featuring favorite TASCHEN titles, including The Big Book of Breasts and the Cabinet of Natural Curiosities. Designed by Philippe Starck, who created its sisters in Paris and Beverly Hills, it's a glowing, groovy tube of a place, with trippy, Peter Max-like wall murals painted by Beatriz Milhazes, a Brazilian artist, and floating bookshelves that sprout from concrete stalks and have video monitors along the top."

"Based in Cologne, Germany, TASCHEN has subsidiaries in London, Paris, Madrid, Tokyo, Hong Kong and Los Angeles. It also has its own bookstores, which it began opening in 1998, in Cologne, Paris and Beverly Hills. This month, New York will finally land on TASCHEN's map, when its fourth bookstore opens on Greene Street in the city's SoHo neighborhood. In a district that has morphed from a once-gritty artists' enclave to a high-end tourist destination with luxury goods purveyors on every block, the store's wares should fit in nicely."
Publishers Weekly, New York
USA
"Benedikt Taschen isn't one for half-measures - as fans of the publishing magnate's comprehensive volumes on Chelsea drag queens, large-breasted women, and heavyweight champs can attest. And the Teutonic titillator has stayed true to form with his first New York store, a trippy collaboration with Philippe Starck."
